sublease: A rental agreement or lease between a tenant and a new tenant (called a sublessee) who will either share the rental or take over from the first tenant. The sublessee pays rent directly to the tenant. The tenant is still completely responsible to the landlord for the rent and for any damage, including that caused by the sublessee. Most landlords prohibit subleases unless they have given prior written consent.
Are you someone who's currently subletting or who has past experience as a subletter (or sublessee, if we're getting technical)? Send your soul-touching, gut-busting, and/or hair-raising accounts to subletblog@gmail.com. Include your name (full or just first), city/state/country of your stay, length/date of stay, and dwelling specs (studio, one-bedroom, roommates, etc.). If you have a photo you're willing to send (outside of building, interior rooms, house pets, etc.), all the better. If the photo specifically illustrates your story (sewage-overrun bathroom, say), better still. Oh, tenants and landlords are also encouraged to submit! Maybe your subletter peed the bed, leaving evidence behind (welcome home!), maybe she turned your kitty against you, or maybe he... made out with you? I don't care, but if it's good, do send it along.
